Hi, first post here.
I am one of those gamers who love to try out new games, but being in late thirties when life is at its most hectic (for me, anyways), I don't have the time or the inclination for chrunchier games, but being old school gamer, most rules-lite games are too rules lite for me. Needless to say, I don't play new games all that much anymore.
Enter D00Lite. I got the game for my birthday last year, read it and liked it, but being swamped with work, I only got to try it out this month. I GMed a 4 session adventure for a new group of people.
All I can say is wow!
This is one beautiful game. It is simple (takes 2 minutes to explain) but it provides such a great range for adventures. It takes next to nothing to prepare a session rules-wise, and it hits that sweet spot between being in the background and being mechanical enough that it really is a game, one that (it seems to me) is sustainable over longer adventures and campaigns. It also seems to be very hackable, and I can see that, with the addition of Covert Ops and all the work people here added, it can take on any genre. I think I have found my new go-to system :)
So thank you for creating this wonderful game, guys. Tip of the hat to you, and a round of beers on me!
Marko, better late than never
BareBones Fantasy RPG is not associated with Skaldcrow Games' Bare Bones Multiverse, despite similar names. Check out Glenn's products by clicking here.
Welcome Marko! I too am a huge fan of this game system. I've run straight fantasy, spy games, a campaign based on Star Gate and one based on Tamriel (Elder Scrolls) and am running one in the wuxia genre.
The core of this game is rock solid and you completely "get" the system. Explain it in 2 minutes, and get fantastic nuanced play for years.
I was fortunate to have started right when the game came out and looking over my notes I've run over 100 games using it so far. I'm not at all tired of it and instead am more inspired than ever.
Welcome to D00Lite! Please share any game notes or play write-ups or ideas etc.
Thanks for the welcome, jasales. Wow, that's a lot of gaming in any system :) I think I'll do cyberpunk next, although wuxia would also be a great way to introduce D00Lite! to my martial arts buddies (I have a group of players who all train - me included - Chinese martial arts :D)
I'll be sure to share the next game I do.
Wait until you see FrontierSpace - it's two full 8.5x11 books and has so many subsystems and gaming goodness to help you as GM build your adventures and campaigns... but at its core it's still the same simple system. Hope you like sci fi too!
Heh, seems to me the only thing this post lacks is a like button :)
