

While working on a vehicle article for the Star Frontiersman Issue 15 (link below) I was getting stuck on what appeared to be the high cost of vehicle add-ons. My article is aimed at creating military vehicles for the Star Frontiers/Alpha Dawn setting.
A 8,000 credit hover car cost around 48,000 credits to upgrade to a (moderate) military-duty package. That's like 6x! Although much lower than today's modern military vehicles the numbers stand out as very high. Then it dawned on me, I should be thinking in terms of "character wealth".
How long does it take a character in Alpha Dawn to acquire 48k? This question depends on how the Referee distributes credits in his campaign. (Off topic: Bill Logan had to fight very very hard (in story) to stop our characters from acquiring a pirate ship. He was *very* surprised we overtook the crew. Curse you Bill! ;-) )
Based on the Hireling table found on page 55 in the AD Re-mastered book the average PC at Level 3 earns 80 credits per day. That's about 20 months of saving nothing but his pay; no new gadgets, ammo, cost of living expenses, etc.
