We always intended to make a Basic version of the game that is kid-friendly. Today we were kicking around the idea at lunch. In about 5 minutes we came up with a solution; remove this chapter, that chapter, reduce the gear to this, break down the 27 archetypes into 10 or so and write a new chapter on developing your character. Needful done!
I'm not sure if the game is really that easy to piece together (or apart, heh) or if it's the familiarity of the game. I was very impressed. Once again I tend to over think things but in a matter of minutes we had a framework to build on.
Go team!

A basic rule set would be really great. It would aslo be fun to see a kid friendly campaign setting (settings?) for FrontierSpace. It sure would help with family gaming and to introduce roleplaying games to a younger audience...
I wonder what the interest level is for a basic game boxed set. The full game will not fit in a box, the Player's book (current version) is 300 pages!
Anyone know of a modern RPG that is offering a boxed set?
My kids loved the idea for what its worth! I think you should put a white crayon in the box also. Its a tradition!
Did my quickstart guide example not provide enough info? I'm not sure I understood this. I'm not up on what's going on or what's been rejected or rethought.
Ascent,
It's been a while since I read your proposal that Bill fwd to me. I re-read it tonight; your ideas are interesting. Nothing has been rejected or rethought and it's certainly not cast in stone. Just kicking around some ideas. Bill and I are trying to post once/twice a week so people know were alive and working hard on the game.
Feedback and ideas are always welcome!
