For many of us, Star Frontiers was our first foray into science fiction role-playing. For a few of us, it was our very first role-playing game! We recall the first time we peeled the plastic wrap from the box, felt those little plastic ten-sided dice in our hands. We flipped through the book and were instantly transported to the setting through the artwork of Easley and Elmore, who brought the amazing races to life. It was distinctly different from other role-playing games of the same era: it didn't have restrictive character classes to box in your imagination; it was new and innovative rather than a rehash of older (though beloved) themes. It wasn't Star Trek, wasn't Star Wars, and wasn't Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers... it was new and we loved it.
We at DwD Studios have a special soft spot for this game. For one, it brought its founding members together as friends and later business partners. Additionally, we still PLAY it, and were surprised to find so many more folks who still play it. Finally, Star Frontiers has been one of the largest inspirations to us as we continue to build and develop and share our imaginations with the world.
What we have built is a labor of love... we do not profit from it nor can we. We do have a letter from WotC/Hasbro giving us permission to do what we're doing. With that permission we happily share with you some of the work we've done in the past. See the links at left.
The StarFrontiersman webzine continues to be something we enjoy putting together, but it's a lot of work and so we don't release it very regularly. It's been going on for many years and even pre-dates us as a company. We hope to still be putting content together and sharing with you in the years to come.
